Gill flukes, Dactylogyrus, Monogenic trematodes

Symptoms: rapid breathing, splayed gill covers, apathy and loss of color. Small numbers of gill flukes are not a problem, problems only arise when these flukes multiply massively. This only occurs in aquariums which are greatly overstocked or have inadequate hygiene.
Another type of mucous production takes place in the gills, when fish are infected with gill flukes. The fish can feel the flukes in the gills, where they anchor themselves with hooks, and attempt to get rid of them by creating mucous. Unfortunately, this is not successful, and the fish suffocate on their own mucous. In the case of gill flukes, prompt treatment with JBL Gyrodol is recommended.

Application of JBL Gyrodol: Any active carbon must be removed from the filter before application, UV-C devices and CO2 fertilizers switched off and, in saltwater, skimmers and ozone equipment switched off.
Before application, 70% of the water should be changed.
Dose: 1 drop to 1 l water (5 ml to 100 l). After 6 hours, change 70 % of the water

Note on the length of treatment: For skin flukes, live-bearing gill flukes and tapeworms one single treatment is usually sufficient. For egg-laying gill flukes, the treatment should be repeated twice at an interval of one week (cold water 10 days) due to the eggs.

Note in the event of an overdose, stop treatment: In the event of an overdose, change half the water.

After treatment: Following treatment, the water should be filtered through active carbon (JBL Carbomec activ / Carbomec ultra) for 24 hours in order to remove any residues of medication. The carbon should then be discarded. Following this, one dose of JBL Acclimol (in freshwater only) per day should be given for a week in order to strengthen the immune system of the fish and improve the healing of the wounds caused by the parasites. The addition of JBL FilterStart to the filter or JBL Denitrol to the aquarium water helps to replace any cleansing bacteria which may have been affected.
