Dory with babies
For the first time ever the Americans have finally succeeded in breeding one of the ten most popular marine fish in the USA! After the launch of the film “Finding Dory” there was a significant surge in demand for palette surgeonfish (Paracanthurus hepatus). This is really fantastic because it is the first time anyone has managed to breed from the spawning stage to the juvenile stage in aquarium conditions. Breeding of surgeon fish and of yellow tangs is not easy since the animals release their eggs and sperm in groups, and these then develop as plankton through a larval stage into juvenile fish.
