I think that everyone has thought about the price of koi from time to time. It just so happens that quality has its price! As with anything else the price of koi is dependent on several factors: purchase quantity, contacts to the breeder and selection, which means whether the breeder or the customer is selecting the koi. Of course it’s clear that the more koi I buy off the breeder, the lower the purchase price is. Since Japanese breeders attach great importance to loyalty and staying in contact this reduces the purchase price. And finally the buyer “hand picking” koi is a reason for the breeder to charge more, whereas purchasing the breeder’s selection will save the buyer a little money.
