Koi Transport Part 2: From the farm to the airport

Before the transport the healthy koi are not fed. This is a very important measure to prevent the koi from poisoning themselves in transit with their own excrement. Not feeding healthy koi does not cause any harm. All this is done by manual work. There is no conveyor belt or any other mechanical assistance for the employees. Often women are occupied there to do this physically demanding work. The large and heavy fish are packed by hand and transported to the vehicles on flatbed carts. The fish are put into large, transparent koi transport bags, which are filled with water and oxygen. Afterwards they are individually inserted into special koi shipping cartons. After that they are transported by air to Frankfurt and elsewhere, where our local koi dealer waits ready to receive the beauties.
