Light as energy source
Plants provide the aquarium with the oxygen vital for the aquarium dwellers. Plants prevent algae growth, remove pollutants, provide hiding places and reduce pathogens. The right full-spectrum light is necessary to achieve full photosynthesis. Easy to install: Insert the fluorescent T5 tube socket into the fixture and turn until the tube locks into place. Nature as a model. With its light colour and its spectral distribution of the light the tube meets the needs of the plants. It supports their longitudinal growth and their photosynthetic performance. The colour enhancing light with increased spectral red and blue content shows plants and fish in their natural beauty.

Correlation between light spectrum and light intensity:
To create a very light tube you only have to intensify the yellow-green spectral range. Adding a little more red and blue will prevent the light from looking too yellow. That’s how it is done with most tubes! However, we don’t want to illuminate a living room but a planted aquarium with different demands, including ALL the spectral ranges of visible light (rainbow colours) to promote perfect growth. That’s why JBL has designed “full-spectrum tubes”, which include all the spectral ranges with NOTHING missing. In return they are slightly less light than other fluorescent tubes. The output of a tube is always 100%, but it is important to know which spectral ranges they cover!

FAQ
Which electronic ballasts should be used for JBL Solar ultra T5 ?

The technology for fluorescent bulbs is standardised so that the manufacturers of the lamps and the ballasts both determine the ignition and controller of the tubes.

For this reason the tubes can be operated with any electronic ballast.

JBL Solar tubes: My two new tubes don't "glow". Is that due to a production error?

We can exclude the possibility of a production error. If a light doesn't turn on, that is an unfortunate exception.
If you have a light bar with conventional electronic ballasts, I would recommend changing the starters once to see if they are causing the problem. Does the defective tube glow when you change the tubes on the light bar ? And the other one doesn't ? Then there is a defect in the light bar.

What colour temperature do JBL Solar Color and JBL Solar Color ultra have in kelvins?

Indicating the colour temperature for these two special tubes would be pointless, as they are a special case due to their luminescent phosphors. This information would not yield any values that could be compared.

Can the JBL Solar ultra T5 fluorescent bulbs be operated with conventional ballasts?

No, this is not possible.

What do the hours of service life indicated for the fluorescent tubes mean ?

Our tubes are not tri-band tubes, but instead, are modern full-spectrum tubes.

If there is a loss of luminance, the operating conditions must definitely be checked. T8 tubes have the longest service life with the least losses at 25 °C ambient temperature, whereas the T5 tubes have the lowest at 35 °C ambient temperature. Most of the closed covers have ambient temperatures that are higher than 25 °C. Generalising data of 8,000 or 10,000 hours of service life should generally be treated with caution, as this data applies to optimised operating conditions.
