Product information

About 90 % of all fish diseases can be put down to a weakening of the fish’s immune system. This means the application of remedies can fight the pathogen but doesn’t generally eliminate the cause. It is therefore very important to determine the cause.
As soon as the first signs of disease become noticeable IMMEDIATE action is required. In most cases people wait too long.
Hole-in-the-head disease/ spironucleus/ hexamita/ flagellates/ protoopalina:
The hole-in-the-head disease is caused by flagellates of the genus spironucleus or protoopalina. Under specific conditions, which have not yet been clearly defined, there is a mass reproduction of the flagellates which live in the fish’s intestine. They compete with the fish for mineral nourishment until the fish suffers from a mineral deficiency. In response to this deficiency the fish extracts minerals from its own bone tissue. Because the fish’s head has the largest bone substance, it is particularly here that it comes to a massive bone reduction which is visible as holes. The flagellates meanwhile move to the nearest body surface. Because the hole walls are the nearest body surface you can find the flagellates at the bottom of the holes. The flagellates used to be held wholly responsible for this disease. The truth of the matter, however, is that it is a combination of mineral deficiency and the massive reproduction of flagellates which leads to the hole formation. Tapeworms, roundworms, fish tuberculosis and malnutrition can equally lead to hole formation. Remedy: Increase by adding JBL Aquadur the mineral content of the water. So far occurrence of the hole-in-the-head disease has only been observed in very soft water.
Now combat the flagellates by adding JBL Spirohexol Plus 250.

FAQ
Can I use two different medications at the same time?

Unless otherwise indicated in the instructions for use, the simultaneous use of two different medications is not possible and we strongly advise against it. Toxic cross reactions and undesirable side effects, such as oxygen deficiency or nitrite, cannot be ruled out. If your fish suffer from a primary infection and further secondary infections, always treat the primary infection or disease with the highest stress factor for the animal. Finish a treatment with the correct dosage in accordance with the instructions and then start the second medication. After the treatment or between two treatments, filter the aquarium water over activated carbon for 24 hours to remove any residual medication. The activated carbon need then to be disposed of properly. Any medical treatment is also a stress factor for your fish, so be careful not to overburden your animals and only treat them after a thorough diagnosis.

Can I use over-the-counter medications for ornamental fish in fish that will be used for human consumption later ?

No. As a rule, over-the-counter medications for ornamental fish may not be used in fish that are bred for human consumption.

Can JBL Spirohexol und JBL Spirohexol 2 be used unreservedly with freshwater stingrays (Potamotrygon spec.) ?

No, the active ingredient in JBL Spirohexol is not tolerated by cartilaginous fish - sharks, rays and therefore also freshwater stingrays. They should be excluded from a treatment.

Both white spot disease and hole-in-head disease have erupted in the aquarium. Can I use simultaneous treatment with JBL Punktol ultra, Punktol Plus 125 or JBL Punktol Plus 250 and JBL Spirohexol 2 or JBL Spirohexol Plus 250? If so, what dosages should I use?

Simultaneous use of JBL Punktol ultra, JBL Punktol Plus 125, JBL Punktol Plus 250 and JBL Spirohexol 2 or JBL Spirohexol Plus 250 is not advisable. Unpredictable cross-reactions may occur.

Which disease to treat first essentially depends on the severity and the rate at which the disease spreads.

In that case, it is advisable to contact a veterinarian with expertise in fish. Our Online Hospital has a link to the website of the German practicing veterinarians.

Please note that we are unable to provide information on the diagnosis of fish diseases by phone or email, as corresponding examinations are needed for a diagnosis.

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).

Web notifications are part of the W3C standard and define an API for end user notifications. A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event, such as a new blog post, outside the context of a website.
