Peat is a natural product consisting of plant components (peat mosses, other bog plants) which are deposited in high bogs. These components are not fully mineralised under the conditions there, so that peat is formed. _x000D_ _x000D_ Just like any other organism, plants also contain phosphorus, which all organisms need for their energy metabolism. In this respect, it is normal for peat products to contain phosphorus in the form of phosphates. The phosphates bound in the plants aren't released until the peat is mineralised further under aerobic conditions.
