To prevent shrimps from being sucked into your external filter (such as the JBL CRISTALPROFI e greenline models), and to secure the intake strainer, simply slide the ProFlow sf quick filter cartridge over the intake strainer of your JBL InSet. This will prevent even baby shrimps from being sucked in. Please note that the sponge can quickly become clogged with heavy dirt and therefore needs to be cleaned several times a week. Otherwise the performance of your external filter will be severely reduced.
The sponges in your internal and external filter are available with fine and coarse pore sizes. They mechanically retain particles such as food remains, faeces, leaves and algae. The bacteria which settle there decompose the substances retained. This means that the filter performance will decrease in time. You can rinse your JBL CRISTALPROFI filter sponges up to twice under lukewarm water (25 °C). Please do not wash too thoroughly, as this will cause the important cleansing bacteria to die off and be lost. The sponges should be replaced after approx. 2 months. When you rinse them, you will find spots where you cannot remove the dirt. This indicates it is time to replace them.
