Product information

Nature as a model
Terrarium animals are cold-blooded animals, which are strongly dependent on light, particularly on the quality and intensity of the light. Activity, food intake, digestion or rest phases are influenced by the change of day and night and the intensity of light. Depending on the light source, there are differences in output and quality of the light.

FAQ
With a combination of the der JBL TempSet Unit L-U-W with metal halide lamps (e.g. JBL ReptilDesert L-U-W Light or JBL ReptilJungle L-U-W Light) the lighting unit suddenly switches itself off.

When the lamp suddenly switches itself off after some time of operation this is usually a sign that the electronic ballast of the lighting unit has overheated. For security reasons the ballast is equipped with an integrated overheating protection. If the ballast is not sufficiently aerated, for example when installed in the gap between terrarium back and living room wall, it comes to an automatic switch off to shelter the unit against overheating damage. In such a case please move the ballast unit to a place with sufficient aeration.

Can L-U-V spotlights (metal halide lamps) be checked for functionality with a common light bulb tester? Are the spotlights defective after such a test?

Metal halide lamps need a high current. Thus the functionality can only be checked with an appropriate ballast. A function test with a conventional light bulb tester will not produce any result. The L-U-W spotlights do not suffer any damage from such tests.
