Catfish

Most of the catfish found were predatory or sucking catfish. We only found two armored catfish species.

Characins

Most of the fish we saw were characins. The smallest were neon tetras and the biggest were predatory characins.

Cichlids

We found examples of the second most species-rich group in its entirety, from small Apistogramma to large Cichla.

Various species

It was always exciting to find species that did not belong to the large fish groups, such as the rays, knifefish and killies.

Amphibians & reptiles

Very few snakes, but lots of frogs and a few lizards crossed our path. They’re just waiting for you to discover them!

Mammals & birds

A paradise for ornithologists: we saw parrots, toucans, hummingbirds and many other species every day.

Insects & arachnids

The most beautiful were the butterflies, the most numerous were the ants and termites and the most dangerous were the scorpions.

Participants, country & people

All 36 group members were constantly impressed by the friendliness of the indigenous people, who were always happy to help us find fish.
