Product information

Light as energy source
Most corals in aquariums need sufficient light. They often feed from the metabolic products of the algae, which live in their tissue. Corals which don’t feed photosynthetically prefer dark places and need to be fed with phyto and zooplankton (JBL KorallFluid, JBL PlanktonPur). To ensure ideal growth it is important to know and to reproduce the light requirements of the individual corals in the marine tank.

Easy to install
Insert the fluorescent T5 tube socket into the fixture and turn until the tube locks into place.

Modelled on nature
With its light colour and its spectral distribution of the light the 15000 K tube meets the needs of the corals and invertebrates to promote their growth.

The full daylight spectrum
JBL full-spectrum tubes create light conditions modelled on nature and reproduce the natural, balanced lighting. Tested by the IFM-Geomar Leibnitz-Institut für Meereswissenschaften and rated as very good and “comparable to natural sunlight”. With energy efficiency class B the tube is particularly energy-efficient.

FAQ
JBL Solar tubes: My two new tubes don't "glow". Is that due to a production error?

We can exclude the possibility of a production error. If a light doesn't turn on, that is an unfortunate exception.
If you have a light bar with conventional electronic ballasts, I would recommend changing the starters once to see if they are causing the problem. Does the defective tube glow when you change the tubes on the light bar ? And the other one doesn't ? Then there is a defect in the light bar.

What do the hours of service life indicated for the fluorescent tubes mean ?

Our tubes are not tri-band tubes, but instead, are modern full-spectrum tubes.

If there is a loss of luminance, the operating conditions must definitely be checked. T8 tubes have the longest service life with the least losses at 25 °C ambient temperature, whereas the T5 tubes have the lowest at 35 °C ambient temperature. Most of the closed covers have ambient temperatures that are higher than 25 °C. Generalising data of 8,000 or 10,000 hours of service life should generally be treated with caution, as this data applies to optimised operating conditions.

After I installed new tubes, algae started growing in my tank.

If algae start growing after tube replacement (especially if all of the tubes were replaced at the same time), there are two potential causes:

1) An increase in light due to the new tubes:
Although plants can react to increased amounts of light quickly, plant fertilization must also be adjusted accordingly. A lot of light means stronger plant growth, which in turn results in an increase in the plants' nutrient requirements in terms of CO₂ and trace elements. This applies all the more when reflectors are used additionally above the tubes.

2) Changes in the light spectrum:
Depending on the tubes used previously, installing new tubes can result in a changed spectrum of light. The plants then have to adapt to the new spectrum with their light-harvesting pigments (this does not just refer to chlorophyll, but instead, to so-called accessory pigments as well). This process may take anywhere from a few days to around two weeks. Accordingly, when tubes with a different spectrum are installed, most plants react with a short-term stagnation in growth.

Therefore, it is often advisable not to replace the tubes all at once and instead, to replace one tube at a time at two-week intervals.

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).

Web notifications are part of the W3C standard and define an API for end user notifications. A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event, such as a new blog post, outside the context of a website.
