Sustainability and environmental protection

With the first refill pack for ornamental fish JBL brought sustainability to the field of aquatics many years ago. Things then started to move at a rapid pace: from energy-efficient cars for the JBL sales force, to a huge photovoltaic system on the roofs of the JBL plant in Neuhofen, to the current refill packs of the JBL water treatment JBL Biotopol and the plant fertiliser JBL Ferropol. Now the aquarium enthusiast can also contribute to the protection of the environment, and the savings are tremendous. One truckload with refill bags corresponds to 17 truckloads of hard packaging, which in its turn corresponds to a CO2 saving of 94 % during the transport!

Instead of fuel-guzzling UVC exhaust air in the food production, large-volume bio filters are in use which also make the use (and disposal) of 10,000 litres of activated carbon redundant.

Very special care is taken in the production of fish food: Protecting the natural fish stocks of the oceans is the top priority here. Not a single fish has to be caught for JBL fish food! JBL uses only fish meat left over from fish fillet production, according to the motto: "The large fillet for humans and the small fillet for our aquarium fish!" This is how high-quality, pure fish protein is obtained. Incidentally, this fish processing takes place in France. JBL strictly rejects the processing of whole fish from fish stocks that are already under threat and supports short transport routes to avoid overseas shipments for environmental reasons.

Anyone who has met the staff and the managing director, Roland Böhme, quickly understands that JBL is seriously interested in nature conservation.

„We follow the commitment of my father, who founded the company 50 years ago. He loved animals of all kinds and made it a central issue to create products which would optimise the keeping of animals, and thus stop their removal from the wild. I am happy to continue this aim!”

Roland Böhme

Photovoltaic systems

Here you can see for yourself the current power display of the photovoltaic system on the roofs of the JBL plant and the resulting savings of CO2. Hall A indicates the roof of the production hall, hall H indicates the roof of the raw materials warehouse and hall S the high roof of the logistics center. Solar system

Fish fillet production

Not a single fish has to be caught for the JBL fish food! We use exclusively fish meat, which is leftover from fish fillet production and our motto is: The large fillet for humans and the small fillet for our aquarium fish! That way pure high-quality fish protein is obtained. By the way this fish processing takes place in the north of France. JBL strictly rejects the processing of whole fish from endangered fish stocks.

Bio filter

Since 2010 the production has been using a bio filter system, which removes odours and pollutants from the exhaust air and has a minimal effect on the environment.

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).

Web notifications are part of the W3C standard and define an API for end user notifications. A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event, such as a new blog post, outside the context of a website.
