  • Why doesn't ProScan work with my mobile phone?

ProScan requires a camera with autofocus to accurately determine the photometric measurement results. This is the only way to ensure maximum accuracy. If the app cannot be downloaded from the store, this may be the reason. The app also requires Android version 7.0 or higher or iOS 13.0 or newer. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, as well as over 5,100 Android smartphone and tablet models. If the download does not work in the store, your mobile phone is probably incompatible in one of the above respects. If you encounter any problems during use, for example when scanning, please contact our customer service team at www.jbl.de/support.

  • Why doesn't the thermometer stick to the window?

Please clean the glass thoroughly before installing the thermometer. Algae, biofilms, and limescale can prevent it from sticking properly. If the thermometer still does not stick, there may be a problem with the suction cup itself. Due to a material defect, some suction cups have bubble-like growths that prevent them from sticking properly. If you have one of these suction cups, please contact our customer service with a photo.

  • Does JBL StabiloPond Basis or JBL StabiloPond KH promote algae growth in ponds?

JBL StabiloPond Basis and JBL StabiloPond KH are salt mixtures that stabilize (increase) the total hardness and carbonate hardness. They do not contain any nutrients that are available to algae. Nevertheless, it may appear that algae grow faster after adding JBL StabiloPond. This is because in most cases pond water does not contain enough minerals for the organisms living in it. If these missing minerals are added to the water, the supply situation for all organisms, including algae, improves as long as other nutrients available to algae are present, which is always the case. Some types of algae can store up to 100,000 times their own requirements in phosphate reserves.

  • Can the working pressure rise after the solenoid valve has closed?

A slight increase in working pressure is normal when the solenoid valve is closed, but the deviations must not be too large. If the working pressure rises by more than 0.2 - 0.4 bar when the solenoid valve is closed, there may be a defect in the pressure reducer. The extent to which the working pressure rises depends on the preset working pressure on the one hand and the hose volume and pressure resistance of the hose on the other

  • The instructions indicate that the comparator block should be used to compare colors. Is it not possible to do without it? Or is a factor from this approach required for the measurement?

The color charts are designed for use with the comparator block. When using the comparator block with the blind water sample, any self-coloring of the water is compensated for. Without using the comparator block, deviations in the reading are therefore to be expected.

  • My nitrate test provides me with measurement results that I cannot read or that are much too low.

This is often due to incorrect use of the test. It is important to shake vigorously for exactly 1 minute. All other necessary steps are described in the instructions for use.

  • When should I use JBL OxyPond?

JBL OxyPond is used when there is a lack of oxygen. Oxygen deficiency occurs mainly in winter under a layer of ice or in summer during high temperatures. The oxygen content of water depends on temperature. At a water temperature of 0°C, the maximum oxygen content is 14.16 mg/l, whereas at a water temperature of 30°C, it is only 7.53 mg/l.

  • Does the drop test measure copper if it has already been bound by a water treatment device?

JBL PROAQUATEST Cu Copper measures copper that is freely available in the water. If the copper is bound (chelated) because it has been rendered harmless by a water conditioner (e.g. JBL Biotopol), it cannot be detected by the test. These complexes are so stable that they cannot be broken down in the aquarium. They no longer pose a risk to aquarium inhabitants. This is why the test can no longer detect the copper. The compounds are removed during water changes by siphoning off mulm or when cleaning the filter

  • Why do the CO2 bubbles not dissipate after a new installation or cleaning?

After a new installation, the bubbles will only flow slowly through the reactor and will partially combine to form large bubbles. The device requires a running-in period of approx. 48 hours! Only then will a biofilm have formed on the surface of the device, allowing the bubbles to pass through to the top without any problems. After the running-in period, set the bubble rate required for your aquarium.

  • Why are there different recommendations and values on the color chart of the water test?

With JBL PROAQUATEST drop tests, you have a laboratory comparator system that compensates for the natural coloration of the water and enables non-chemists to perform accurate and reliable water analysis. To ensure that water testing monitors the health of your fish and provides the greatest possible safety, you will find a customized evaluation for three different applications. Above the different colored measuring points are numbers, three symbols, and a colored band. The symbols represent the following areas of application: Fish = Freshwater Koi = Garden pond Starfish = Saltwater The color band indicates the meaning of the measured value in green (everything OK), yellow (caution) and red (action required). In addition, you will find numbers that indicate the value in mg/l for the respective color field. The first two color strips (freshwater and pond) belong to the upper row of numbers, while seawater belongs to the lower row. Why do the values differ? Due to the high salt concentration in seawater, the color of the reaction is not as intense as in freshwater (including ponds). Consequently, the value is higher than in freshwater for the same color. Why do the recommendations differ? Each habitat reacts differently to certain nutrient concentrations. In garden ponds, for example, constantly changing temperatures and light intensity can make the value more critical than in freshwater, where these factors are constant and necessary additives ensure balance, which are not added to ponds. Therefore, the recommendations are green for one area of application and yellow for another.

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event outside the context of a website, such as a new blog post, a competition or a voucher.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).
