The UV spot spotlight should not switch off by itself. If it does, this indicates either a defect or (more commonly) insufficient heat dissipation in the immediate vicinity of the spotlight, which then leads to the spotlight switching off (overheating protection).
This depends on the animal group and its way of life: Animals that could also receive too much UV radiation in nature, such as animals from the mountains (some chameleon species), can recognize when they have received enough UV radiation based on various factors (amount of light in lux, humidity). Other animal groups, such as those living on the forest floor, have virtually no chance of receiving too much UV radiation in nature. These animals would be damaged by permanent and strong UV radiation!
