It is no problem to add JBL Manado to the aquarium at a later date. However, in this case, I would recommend rinsing JBL Manado thoroughly several times with warm water beforehand, as natural variations in raw materials can cause calcium to be released into the water for a short time if it is not rinsed thoroughly. As mentioned, this effect is only temporary and can be prevented by rinsing thoroughly with warm water.
There is no risk of the substrate overheating as long as the floor heating cable has been laid correctly with spacers and does not lie directly on the glass pane.
If, after several water changes, the GH is still significantly too high, this indicates that JBL Manado has not been washed thoroughly enough. Please carry out a daily water change of at least 70% for around 4-5 days. This should largely complete the washing-out process.
The foam on the water surface indicates, even though remote diagnosis is extremely difficult in this case, that there are too many organic components, especially protein, which is foamed by the movement of the water. However, appropriate samples would need to be examined. Manado is free of organic components, which means that the foam can hardly be attributed to Manado.
Manado has a lower specific weight than gravel. Normally, the substrate can be cleaned using a sufficiently wide mulm bell. If Manado is sucked in too strongly, it helps to reduce the suction power, for example by using a stopcock. In my opinion, thorough cleaning of the substrate is usually not necessary in newly set up aquariums, or can be limited to the upper area
No, because Manado has a larger pore volume than sand, which means that the sand will trickle through to the bottom.
Due to production, approximately 0.5-1% may float to the surface after the substrate has been washed out. Larger quantities are unlikely and are prevented by strict controls. When filling with water, the substrate should not be stirred up. The small stones will not float up again after the substrate has been washed out with warm water. If they do, this is a sign that the substrate has not been washed out properly. A plate can be used to distribute the water jet evenly. The substrate is very light and helps the plants to grow. To prevent the plants from floating up at the start, the substrate should be at least 5 cm deep. JBL PROSCAPE PLANTIS also helps to fix the plants in place. The initial floating of the plants also occurs with sand and gravel and can only be prevented with this aid.
