  • Does the filter start up again on its own after being disconnected from the power supply?

The filter (CristalProfi) will restart automatically when disconnected from the power supply, provided that there is water in the filter circuit.

  • How do I attach the suction cup to the CristalProfi greenline internal filter?

With a twisting motion and light pressure, insert the enclosed large suction cups into the side openings of the pump head. Make sure that the central pin engages in the hole in the suction cup and is visible after insertion. The correct installation is shown in the following illustration.

  • My filter is noisy after a few months of operation. What is the cause of this?

The filter rotor is subject to constant wear. We recommend replacing it. This will restore smooth operation. Make sure that the noise is not caused by air pockets. The warranty covers assembly and material defects. Wear parts such as the pump impeller and axle, as well as damage caused by external influences and improper handling, are excluded from the warranty.

  • Should I use multiple check valves on my CO2 system?

In line with the motto "better safe than sorry," some aquarium owners install several check valves in the same circuit. If you use the JBL PROFLORA direct inline diffuser or the JBL PROFLORA CO2 Count Safe bubble counter, for example, you already have an integrated check valve. If you use a separate check valve (JBL PROFLORA SafeStop) in addition, problems may arise when opening the check valves. This effect can be observed if the addition does not start again automatically after the night shut-off or interruption of the supply with the controller. Please note that, depending on the working pressure and the number of bubbles, it may take a few minutes between the start of the addition and the visible entry of CO2 into the aquarium. Each spring in a check valve requires a certain amount of pressure to open. Multiple springs can therefore interfere with each other and, depending on the distance between the two check valves, reduce the pressure on the spring to such an extent that it remains closed. Therefore, please always use only one check valve for your CO2 installation.

  • Wear on the rotor—when should I replace it?

There is no general answer to this question. As with a car tire, the duration and intensity of use are decisive. Many customers use the rotors for several years without noticing any noticeable change. Heavy use of the rotor will shorten its service life. With a car, you are familiar with wear and tear caused by heavy braking, mechanical damage, and high mileage. The following factors apply to a rotor: 1. Operating time in hours 2. Throttling of the flow rate (max. 50%) and thus lower cooling capacity 3. Dry running when changing the water (see 2.) 4. Mechanical damage (e.g. caused by snails, improper installation after removal, etc.) 5. Heavy soiling As this is a wearing part, the rotor is not covered by the warranty. For a long service life, you should clean it regularly. This will prevent increased running noise. The rotor housing, rotor, and axle can be cleaned with a suitable cleaning brush. If the rotor needs to be replaced due to wear, the entire set, including the rotor with axle and 2 rubber bearings, must always be replaced. This is the only way to ensure proper functioning and smooth operation. When removing the rotor and axle, a rubber bearing often gets stuck at the bottom of the rotor housing and is very difficult to remove. JBL has developed a special tool for this purpose, which is available from pet stores under the name "Pull-out aid for rotor bearings." A useful cleaning brush for the rotor housing is also included with the tool.

  • My internal filter has a red-brown or light gray suction cup. Is this a defect?

The CristalProfi greenline internal filters were temporarily fitted with "red-brown" and "light gray" suction cups. These are fully functional and differ only in their color. If you do not like the color, you will now find black suction cups, which were unavailable for a while, in the spare parts shop.

PUSH messages from JBL

What are PUSH messages? As part of the W3C standard, web notifications define an API for end-user notifications that are sent to the user's desktop and/or mobile devices via the browser. Notifications appear on the end devices as they are familiar to the end user from apps installed on the device (e.g. emails). Notifications appear on the end user’s device, just like an app (e.g. for emails) installed on the device.

A notification makes it possible to inform the user about an event outside the context of a website, such as a new blog post, a competition or a voucher.

These notifications enable a website operator to contact its users whenever they have a browser open - it doesn’t matter whether the user is currently visiting the website or not.

To be able to send web push notifications, all you need is a website with a web push code installed. This allows brands without apps to take advantage of many of the benefits of push notifications (personalised real-time communications at just the right moment).
