If you reach the end of the scale on the color chart with one measurement, you can extend the known scale several times by diluting with distilled water (e.g., JBL Dest) for the following tests. Here's how: Dilute the sample with distilled water and repeat the measurement. This works as follows: GH test: Use 10 ml of aquarium water instead of 5 ml. Now 1 drop corresponds to 0.5 °dGH. KH test: Use 10 ml of aquarium water instead of 5 ml. Now 1 drop corresponds to 0.5 °dGH. Note: When using 10 ml of sample water, the color development is weaker with the first few drops than when filling with 5 ml of sample water. For better readability, place the measuring vessel on a white surface. NH4/NH3 ammonium/ammonia, NO2 nitrite, Fe iron, and Cu copper: 2.5 ml sample + 2.5 ml distilled water: result x 2 Water: Result x 2 1 ml sample + 4 ml distilled water: Result x 5 0.5 ml sample + 4.5 ml distilled water: Result x 10 NO3 Nitrate, SiO2 Silicate, PO4 Phosphate sensitive and Mg Magnesium Freshwater: 5 ml sample + 5 ml distilled Water: Result x 2 2 ml sample + 8 ml distilled water: Result x 5 1 ml sample + 9 ml distilled water: Result x 10 PO4 Phosphate Koi High Range: 2.5 ml sample + 2.5 ml distilled water: Result x 2 1 ml sample + 4 ml distilled water: Result x 5 K Potassium: 7.5 ml sample + 7.5 ml distilled water: Result x 2 3 ml sample + 12 ml distilled water: Result x 5 1.5 ml sample + 13.5 ml distilled water: Result x 10 K Potassium in seawater: 1. 10 ml sample water with distilled water to 300 ml. 2. The remaining steps are the same as for freshwater. 3. Multiply the test result by a factor of 30. CO2 direct, Ca calcium, and Mg+Ca magnesium+calcium: Not required.
The color charts are designed for use with the comparator block. When using the comparator block with the blind water sample, any self-coloring of the water is compensated for. Without using the comparator block, deviations in the reading are therefore to be expected.
This is often due to incorrect use of the test. It is important to shake vigorously for exactly 1 minute. All other necessary steps are described in the instructions for use.
To answer this question, further information is required and troubleshooting may be necessary. 1) Are the reagents for the copper test still OK (best-before date not expired and not opened for more than approx. 1/2 to 3/4 year)? 2) Has the medication expired (you will find the expiry date on the bottom of the box or on the bottle)? If both are correct, please try the following: 1) Fill a 10-liter bucket with tap water. 2) Perform a copper test; the value should be 0 mg/l. 3) Add JBL Oodinol 1000 according to the instructions. 4) Stir the water thoroughly. 5) Perform another copper test; the value should be 0.3 mg/l. 6) If the test changes color, both products are OK and the copper will precipitate in the aquarium. As a metal in water, copper is subject to various processes, including: Precipitation due to poorly soluble copper salts. The copper then usually accumulates in the filter media. This can be remedied by replacing the filter media before dosing again. Accumulation in mulm. This can be remedied by a generous water change with mulm extraction (use a mulm vacuum cleaner). Then repeat the treatment according to the instructions. Consumption by organisms, especially aquatic plants (copper is an essential trace element for aquatic plants), although this is hardly significant at the usual medicinal dosages

With JBL PROAQUATEST drop tests, you have a laboratory comparator system that compensates for the natural coloration of the water and enables non-chemists to perform accurate and reliable water analysis. To ensure that water testing monitors the health of your fish and provides the greatest possible safety, you will find a customized evaluation for three different applications. Above the different colored measuring points are numbers, three symbols, and a colored band. The symbols represent the following areas of application: Fish = Freshwater Koi = Garden pond Starfish = Saltwater The color band indicates the meaning of the measured value in green (everything OK), yellow (caution) and red (action required). In addition, you will find numbers that indicate the value in mg/l for the respective color field. The first two color strips (freshwater and pond) belong to the upper row of numbers, while seawater belongs to the lower row. Why do the values differ? Due to the high salt concentration in seawater, the color of the reaction is not as intense as in freshwater (including ponds). Consequently, the value is higher than in freshwater for the same color. Why do the recommendations differ? Each habitat reacts differently to certain nutrient concentrations. In garden ponds, for example, constantly changing temperatures and light intensity can make the value more critical than in freshwater, where these factors are constant and necessary additives ensure balance, which are not added to ponds. Therefore, the recommendations are green for one area of application and yellow for another.
JBL PROAQUATEST Cu Copper measures copper that is freely available in the water. If the copper is bound (chelated) because it has been rendered harmless by a water conditioner (e.g. JBL Biotopol), it cannot be detected by the test. These complexes are so stable that they cannot be broken down in the aquarium. They no longer pose a risk to aquarium inhabitants. This is why the test can no longer detect the copper. The compounds are removed during water changes by siphoning off mulm or when cleaning the filter
