Ideally, the eggs will hatch at a water temperature of around 25°C. At room temperature (corresponding to a water temperature of around 20–21°C), it can take up to 36 hours. Try again with 2 spoons instead of 3 and reduce the air supply by approx. 50%. Provided that the best-before date has not passed, the mixture should now work. Additional lighting can significantly increase the hatching rate. About the KidsSet: Since the amount of eggs in the KidsSet is reduced in the salt mixture (so that the hatched larvae do not poison themselves with their metabolic waste products), it can sometimes be difficult to see the small nauplii in the KidsSet. Looking at them against the light helps here. Ideally, planktonic algae should be used for rearing. ArtemioFluid contains a suspension of the finest algae products, which the larvae accept as substitute food. A warm, bright location is recommended. If there is a lack of light, especially in winter, additional lighting, for example with an energy-saving lamp, is a possible option.
It may happen that the water from the breeding reactor does not run through the fine sieve at first. This effect occurs when: - A fresh, dry sieve is used for the first time, - A used sieve has not been rinsed properly, - The sieve is completely dry. Remedial measures: 1) Moisten both sides of the sieve beforehand to remove the air from the sieve pores and allow the water to flow freely. 2) Tap the underside of the sieve; the contact will draw water through the sieve and the effect will spread across the sieve surface. The cause lies in the fine structure of the sieve, with a mesh size of 150 µm, and the so-called cohesion of the water molecules. Water molecules combine to form larger units (clusters), which is why water is liquid between 0 and 100 °C; otherwise, it would be gaseous. In dry, fine sieves, cohesion initially prevents the water from passing freely through the sieve, whose pores are initially filled with air. When the sieve is moistened or contact is made with the underside, a suction force is exerted which breaks up the clusters and allows the water to pass through the sieve
