The IP67 protection rating (IP68 for Gen 2) ensures that you can use the LED even in closed enclosures with high humidity without damaging the light. However, it must never be operated directly under water. The protection class indicates that the light is dustproof and protected against temporary immersion. However, this does not mean that the LED can be operated underwater! You will also find a note on this in the instructions. If the LED accidentally falls into water and is submerged, the IP67 protection class (IP68 for Gen 2) serves as protection for your personal safety against electrical accidents. In such cases, please first disconnect all power plugs – do not touch the device immediately afterwards – and only then retrieve the device. As long as the LED light is on, there will be no moisture problem under water. The heat generated provides additional protection. If the lighting is switched off and cools down, condensation may still form on the inside, similar to fogging on glasses. Therefore, please install the LED light at least 15 mm above the highest water level. After an accident involving submersion, your LED should be checked by the JBL Customer Service Team at the factory.
Retrofit refers to the option of converting conventional T5/T8 tubes to the JBL LED SOLAR system. You can simply "plug" the new LEDs into the old tube sockets and operate them without having to remove the cover or make any structural changes. Many cat owners do not have the option of keeping an aquarium "open" and are therefore dependent on the aquarium cover. However, the environment around the aquarium does not always allow for an open installation. In this case, retrofit installation is ideal.
You will find a table on each LED package. Here you can find out which LED SOLAR is suitable for your aquarium. There are two application scenarios for this. 1. You are replacing an existing T5/T8 tube and want to install the LED as a retrofit. In this case, look in the corresponding column. The selection will usually be the shorter model, as there are small gaps in the aquarium cover to the right and left of the tube socket. You can make your selection based on the length (in mm) of the tube or, alternatively, based on the wattage. 2. The second installation type is as a surface-mounted or suspended installation. Here, the maximum aquarium width is decisive. Please refer to the corresponding column. For this installation type, always select the larger of the two options to achieve optimal illumination
You can control multiple IR receivers with one remote control. The IR receiver should be mounted close to or on the aquarium cabinet so that it can be reached directly by the IR signals from the remote control. All remote controls operate on the same wavelength. This means that you can control all receivers with just one remote control.
Unfortunately, this is not possible – but you can connect two. One driver (power supply unit) can be used to connect one LED SOLAR NATUR and one LED SOLAR EFFECT as an efficient pair for ideal lighting of your aquarium. If you need a high-intensity aquarium and have a lot of plants, you can easily install another LED SOLAR NATUR with an additional driver, which is included free of charge with every LED SOLAR NATUR set. The power supply unit cannot handle the power of two LED SOLAR NATUR units. We therefore strongly advise against using a homemade adapter.
Operating the LED SOLAR EFFECT alone does not provide sufficient lighting, which is essential for fish and plants. Due to the specified plug assignment, which has been chosen for your safety, the LED SOLAR EFFECT must be operated together with an LED SOLAR NATUR. If you purchase the LED SOLAR EFFECT separately, which is intended exclusively as an addition to the LED SOLAR NATUR, you will not have all the necessary accessories. Therefore, the driver (power supply), IR receiver, and remote control are only included in the SOLAR LED NATUR box. For this reason, the LED SOLAR EFFECT can only be operated in combination with the LED SOLAR NATUR.
LEDs also produce heat, which is dissipated via the metal heat sink on the back of the JBL LED SOLAR. To prevent unwanted discoloration of the protective glass, uneven illumination in the aquarium, and heat problems with the LEDs, the LED SOLAR NATURE and EFFECT should always be installed at a distance of at least 1 cm from the substrate (e.g., a glass strut). The included brackets for installation as a surface mount or the wire rope suspension allow this, so that direct contact is not necessary. This is also possible without any problems when installing as a retrofit in the tube socket.
On the back of your packaging and in the instructions for use, you will find a table that lists the lumen output (at 4000 K) for each product type. Unlike other LED types, LED SOLAR NATUR mixes light from cool white and warm white LEDs to produce the three possible Kelvin values. Maximum flexibility for your aquarium type. None of the LEDs run at their maximum output of 100%, ensuring a long service life. This makes it possible to generate almost identical lumen values at all times. The deviation between the three color spaces is minimal.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The LED SOLAR EFFECT is connected to the driver (power supply) of the LED SOLAR NATUR using the cable splitter provided. This means that all slots are occupied. You will need an additional driver for this. You can connect one NATUR and one EFFECT to one driver. It is not possible to connect two LED SOLAR EFFECT to one driver due to the connection plugs and the maximum power consumption of the power supply.
You can attach the JBL LED SOLAR NATUR and EFFECT to an aquarium in three different ways. In none of these variants is the LED "simply" placed on top. 1. Retrofit: Using the adapters supplied, you can use the old tube sockets (T5/T8) and plug them into both ends of the LED body. 2. Surface mount: With the included mounting brackets, the LEDs can be securely positioned on the edge of the aquarium without falling in or being too close to the water surface. 3. Hanging: With the LED SOLAR Hanging accessory, you can hang your LED from the ceiling and place it floating above the aquarium.
Even if you believe that 24 W T5 tubes are always the same length, there are different versions available on the market with the same wattage but different lengths. For this reason, we have included two different adapters in the set to ensure safe installation. If your installation is unsuccessful, please check the box for the alternative adapter.
The overall performance of a system is crucial for you. This determines the "power consumption" on your household bill. All manufacturers must indicate this figure on their packaging. This includes all consumers of a product. With JBL LED SOLAR, the LED and the driver (power supply) are the consumers. Due to reactive power and transformation processes, every power supply always has a small amount of power consumption. For you as an aquarium owner, the LED performance for your aquarium and plants is crucial, which is why we do not want to withhold this information from you or mislead you with "attractive" overall specifications.
