With JBL PROSCAN, the test results are not affected by the water's own coloration and remain reliable. With JBL PROAQUATEST drop reagents, this effect is compensated for by the use of the comparator block, which also ensures reliable test results.
On the blank JBL PROSCAN COLORCARD, you will find gray fields as placeholders that indicate how the test strip should be positioned. The "Top" and "Button" labels serve as additional orientation aids. Since app version 4.0, the app detects alignment errors. Once the JBL PROSCAN test strip has been placed on the card, no gray from the placeholder should be visible on any of the fields. It must be completely covered by the color fields on the test strip. The reason for this is the color detection method. The color detection counts the sum of all colors in a field. Therefore, the gray must be completely covered. Otherwise, the results will be incorrect. Example: A white field is darkened by the gray field template and produces a different result. Excess water and the resulting reflections can cause a similar effect. Each field must be moist/dry without water spots or puddles. You can avoid this by using the test strip correctly, tapping it on the side (do not shake) and placing a sheet of kitchen roll underneath (to prevent reflections). If you receive an error message during the measurement process, it is probably because the test strip is not lying flat on the JBL PROSCAN COLORCARD, so that the gray is clearly visible
Please ensure that the ProScan analysis strip is correctly aligned. This means that the measuring fields should be placed on the ColorCard at the word "Top." Bottom refers to the side of the analysis strip that you are holding in your hand. When reading the ColorCard, the entire card should always be visible in the recording window. A minimal margin around the edge ensures that the "corner points" can be focused on
You can save the measured values as an image using the "Share" button or send them to yourself via message or email. If you are already registered and logged in, the app also allows you to view the evaluation of the last measurement. All you have to do is click on "Save" on the results page.
The CO2 content, which is calculated solely from the measured pH and KH values, is not displayed for pond water types. This is because there are no systems in ponds that can increase or influence the CO2 content. In addition, the large water surface area of most ponds ensures that sufficient CO2 is always transferred from the atmosphere into the water. Most plants also have direct access to atmospheric air.
Yes, this is possible without any problems. Please uninstall your current app and download the JBL PROSCAN app again from the Apple Store. For all users with version 13.0 or higher, only the new JBL PROSCAN version 4.X is available. For users of older versions, version 3.X is still available for download. Maintenance and support for this version will no longer be provided. The camera requires the latest version to ensure accurate results
Each test has a fixed scale that allows the water values to be assigned. The steps in a drop test, for example, are different from those in the ProScan. ProScan therefore also has a scale to record the values and avoid jumps in repeated measurements. Larger differences between the values usually indicate incorrect use in relation to shadows/reflections. It is best to perform the test at a bright window. Direct light from above causes shadows or reflections, which alter individual color renditions. Please note that the analysis strip must ALWAYS be shaken sideways. "Puddles" cause the fields to react with each other and reflections to occur. However, incorrect values may also occur in the drop test due to expired tests (e.g., opened for more than 9 months) or incorrect use (drops filled with air and varying amounts of water). Please check your measurement again. An example: The aquarium has the following water values: 18 mg/l NO3, 0.5 mg/l NO2, 5° dGH, 7 mg/l CO2, 1.5° dKH, 6.8 pH The measurements with the different systems yield the following values: The ProScan shows the following values: 18 mg/l NO3, 0.5 mg/l NO2, > 4° dGH, < 15 mg/l CO2 (calculated), 1.5° dKH, 6.8 pH The drop test shows the following values: 20 mg/l NO3, 0.6 mg/l NO2, 5° dGH, 10 mg/l CO2 (calculated), 2°dKH, 6.8 pH Both results are very accurate and differ only slightly from each other. This has no disadvantage for further statements and actions. The influence of inaccuracies in application on the results is greater than the jumps caused by scaling. A finer scale would ensure that the results cannot always be assigned to exactly the same measuring points if the environment does not provide ideal and clearly defined conditions in terms of light and distance. This would cause the values to "jump" if the test were repeated
JBL ProScan is constantly being developed. We will regularly provide you with new features and options within the app that make water analysis even easier. Therefore, always download the latest version from the store.
Please note that the test strip continues to react. This means that a strip can only be scanned once. Repeated scanning will result in different values, as these change significantly after 70+ seconds. However, the fluctuations also indicate incorrect use in relation to shadows/reflections. It is best to perform the test near a bright window and use a white sheet of paper as a matte, non-reflective surface. Direct light from above causes shadows or reflections, which alter individual color renditions. The ColorCard must always be evenly illuminated. Please note that the analysis strip must ALWAYS be shaken sideways. "Puddles" cause the fields to react with each other and reflections to occur. The smartphone should always be held vertically above the ColorCard.
JBL ProScan Recharge are special digital analysis strips designed for use with the ProScan app. They enable detailed and accurate evaluation in fine increments. JBL does not guarantee the accuracy of the EasyTest 6in1 strips. These have significantly coarser increments and are not suitable for reliable evaluation. They are therefore incompatible.
JBL ProScan is not intended for use with saltwater. The measuring scales and recommendations provided are only suitable for freshwater.
ProScan requires a camera with autofocus to accurately determine the photometric measurement results. This is the only way to ensure maximum accuracy. If the app cannot be downloaded from the store, this may be the reason. The app also requires Android version 7.0 or higher or iOS 13.0 or newer. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, as well as over 5,100 Android smartphone and tablet models. If the download does not work in the store, your mobile phone is probably incompatible in one of the above respects. If you encounter any problems during use, for example when scanning, please contact our customer service team at www.jbl.de/support.
JBL ProScan is constantly being developed. We fix bugs and minor errors that may arise from software updates as quickly as possible. All you need to do is send a short email to socialmedia@jbl.de with the software version, device name, smartphone model, and a description of the error in words and pictures.
The ColorCard has markings for "top" at the top and "bottom" at the bottom. When you pick up the test strip, you will automatically hold it with the "bottom" side facing you. This is the side that has no analysis fields at the bottom of the strip. "Top" has the analysis fields up to the edge. If an error message appears in the app, the test strip has been placed upside down on the ColorCard. Simply correct the position.
Your smartphone's operating system has a resource management feature. This also manages the camera. Since other apps also access the camera, it is possible that access was not enabled after use, resulting in a block. This will cause the ProScan app to display an error message even though the analysis strip is correctly aligned. Especially after an update, the "camera" resource may be blocked for other apps, including JBL ProScan. In many cases, the solution is very simple: Close all apps running in the background via the task manager. Now restart your smartphone and open JBL ProScan as the first app. Now perform the scan again. Closing and restarting the app will release all resources. If the error occurs again, the test strip is not correctly aligned on the ColorCard. The test scan can also be performed without an analysis strip using the empty ColorCard to test functionality only.
Due to a seal that does not close tightly, the following batches of ProScan Recharge test strip sets may display false positive chlorine values: 421141; 44114; 42114; 43114 and 11035 If you purchased your ProScan within the last 6 months, we will send you a refill pack free of charge. Please note that prolonged storage and frequent use may cause the test strips to be damaged by moisture. One pack (24 test strips) should therefore be used within 9 months. This means that a water test should be carried out every 1.5 weeks.
If your new measurements cannot be transferred successfully, it is probably because your login details have changed. Each measurement is linked to your user's data record on the date it was created. If the measurement is not transferred (no internet connection) and your login details change (password changed), this error occurs. Solution: Please delete the app, confirm the removal of the locally stored data, and reinstall the app. When you log in, your profiles will be downloaded and when you add a new measurement, you will see your old measurements in the app again. You can view and compare all your saved measurements at any time on the JBL website under myJBL --> my analyses.
Please use your username and password to log in to the app. Your email address will not be accepted as a username. Please ensure that you have already created a meinJBL profile.
Data exchange between the ProScan app and your JBL online profile is unidirectional. This means that communication only goes in one direction, namely from the app to your JBL account. All aquariums, ponds, and water with the corresponding measurements are stored there under "My analyses." After changing your smartphone or tablet, the last five measurements will therefore not be found in the app, as they are only stored locally on the device. The measurements from your tablet are therefore not on your smartphone and vice versa. In the coming months, we will expand the interface and establish a bidirectional data synchronization so that communication between all devices is possible and water profiles do not have to be created multiple times.
Unlike the other six parameters on the quick test strip of the JBL PROSCAN digital water test, the CO2 content is calculated based on the measured pH and carbonate hardness values of your aquarium water. This is done in three levels: "Value too low," "Everything OK," and "Value too high." This method is also known from the CO2 tables, which you can find in the JBL Aquarium world: https://www.jbl.de/de/themenwelt-aquarium-co2/section/74/co2?country=de However, this method is only an indicator, as other acid-influencing substances can distort the results. If you want to know the exact content, a drop test will help you. The JBL PROAQUATEST CO2 Direct offers a quick and very accurate method for determining the CO2 content. Here, you add an indicator liquid to a sample of your aquarium water and count the drops until a stable pink color appears. This test allows you to exclude other acid influences on the test result.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to print the ProScan ColorCard yourself. It is produced using a special printing process and checked for color accuracy using a test device after printing. This is the only way we can guarantee the high measurement accuracy of the ProScan Test Set.
Test strips are sensitive to moisture. The reaction begins immediately upon contact with moisture. Please remove the required number of test strips with DRY fingers only or, preferably, tap them out of the package as you would a candy packet and close the container immediately. The container contains a desiccant to absorb moisture from the enclosed air. If the tube is left open for some time, a reaction may occur, rendering the test strips unusable. The digital test strips for JBL PROSCAN are significantly more sensitive to moisture than the slightly coarser JBL PROAQUATEST EASY 7in1 strips. Therefore, always store the test strips in a cool, dry place.
The fact that the image is not focused and the test tire on the JBL PROSCAN COLORCARD is not measured immediately after the 60 seconds have elapsed gives you time to lift the smartphone and position it horizontally in front of the COLORCARD with the correct image section. If the measurement started immediately after the 60 seconds had elapsed, you would already be taking the measurement when you lifted the smartphone with it tilted in front of your body. These distortions would result in incorrect measurements. For this reason, a 3-second delay has been implemented since app version 4.0 to help you align the smartphone correctly and ensure that the measurement is always accurate. By tapping the display with your finger, you can manually restart the focus after the 3 seconds. Repeating the measurement or pressing "back" is not possible at this point, as this would result in incorrect measurements. The measurement must be taken within 10 seconds after the 60 seconds have elapsed. Otherwise, the test strip is unusable. In such a case, the test must be started again with a new test strip.
The flash and flashlight functions are disabled within the JBL PROSCAN app. For precise testing with accurate results, even and shadow-free illumination is essential. Spot shadows or overexposure will cause incorrect measurement results due to the sensitive "eyes" of the smartphone camera, which compares the color dots on the JBL PROSCAN COLORCARD. A room with daylight or measuring outdoors/at a window always ensures the right light. The COLORCARD interprets the lighting conditions and different camera types. Avoid artificial light with strong coloring.
If you view your profiles online at myJBL --> my analyses on the homepage, all measurements will still be there. As soon as you log back in on your smartphone and add a new measurement to the respective profile, the 4 most recent measurements from the cloud will also be downloaded and will be available again on your smartphone.
Nothing, is the short answer. As soon as you log into the JBL PROSCAN app on your new smartphone, the stored measurements from your myJBL will be downloaded and are immediately available on your new or another device. Users who have worked without registering cannot save any measurements, so nothing can be lost.
