The maximum surface temperature is approx. 45 °C.
The terrarium must never be placed directly on the JBL TerraTemp heating mats. This can cause heat to build up and possibly cause the bottom panel to burst. The heating mats come with spacers that ensure a gap between the terrarium floor and the heating mat. The terrarium should also be kept at a distance of approx. 3–4 cm from the surrounding walls. This ensures even heat transfer and prevents heat build-up. In addition, the substrate used must allow heat to transfer into the terrarium without any problems. Dense materials with few air chambers are generally suitable. These include sand and sand-like materials, such as JBL TerraSand and JBL TerraBasis. Wood chips, bark substrates, etc., such as JBL TerraBark, JBL TerraWood, and JBL TerraCoco, are highly heat-insulating and therefore unsuitable.
