After a short visit to the world's largest turtle conservation centre, Turtle Island in Graz, the tour continues to the Reptilium in Landau. Expert Uwe Wünstel gives comprehensive tips on the species-appropriate care of tortoises. This first part deals with the size of the terrarium, keeping tortoises outdoors, covering and securely bonding the equipment parts, and their drinking water supply. Biologist Heiko Blessin interviews Uwe Wünstel, the boss of the Reptilium in Landau in his usual relaxed manner.

Turtle Island is the world's largest and most species-rich conservation breeding centre for turtles. Focussed on rescue, care, breeding, reintroduction and research, Turtle Island is dedicated to protecting turtles from extinction. Their large team pushes this task forward and continues to set itself new goals. For example a research and conservation institution is to be established going forward. Dr Peter Praschag, who can be seen at the beginning of the episode, is one of the three founders of Turtle Island and has been involved in species conservation since his earliest childhood.

Film location - Reptilium Landau
Covering an area of 3400 m2 the Reptilium Landau is the largest terrarium zoo in Germany. The Reptilium team’s commitment is to care for a diverse selection of reptiles and other animals with love and dedication. The Reptilium's indoor zones offer an impressive variety of species, including snakes, lizards, spiders, turtles and even crocodiles. The division into indoor and outdoor areas allows the animals to feel at home in different environments and fulfil their natural needs. This gives visitors the chance to discover a fascinating variety of species and learn more about their habitats, behaviour and needs. The reptile zoo thus plays an important role in raising awareness for the protection and conservation of endangered species.
A huge thank you to the Reptilium Landau and Uwe Wünstel for their hospitality and the opportunity to film in their beautiful reptile zoo.
