Product information

Why is a backflow protection device absolutely necessary?
As long as CO2 is fed into the aquarium through the CO2 supply hose, there is no danger of aquarium water entering the hose. However, if a solenoid valve interrupts the CO2 supply at night or the CO2 supply bottle is empty, the CO2 remaining in the hose will dissolve in the water and aquarium water will continue to migrate into the hose. If it reaches the technical parts such as the solenoid valve or pressure reducer, it can lead to corrosion (rusting) and destroy them. The backflow protection works like a valve that only lets the CO2 gas pass through under pressure in one direction (direction of the arrow on the housing).

Where should it be mounted?
Ideally as close as possible to the aquarium water, just above the water level. This way, very little CO2 can migrate into the tube.

Note:
This backflow protection is not suitable for air supply systems (diaphragm pumps/air pumps), as the air pumps do not build up the correct air pressure as CO2 systems with CO2 gas can. There is a separate backflow stop for air pumps: JBL ProSilent Safe.

FAQ
May the JBL PROFLORA CO2 products only be used for the aquarium?

Yes, the JBL PROFLORA CO2 products are designed exclusively for use in the aquarium. The gas contained promotes plant growth and works with fine precision so that even the smallest quantities can be supplied to the aquarium. Constant operation and the safety of the fish are thus guaranteed.

What is the minimum working pressure I need to use the JBL CO2 accessories?

All check valves or backflow protectíons from JBL require a working pressure of at least 0.6 bar for the valve to open. This feature can be found in the JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SAFESTOP, COUNTSAFE and INLINE. The JBL PROFLORA TAIFUN diffusers also all already work with this pressure. A higher working pressure is not necessary, which is why all accessories also work with the JBL PROFLORA BIO SETs. Due to installation, a slightly higher working pressure than 0.6 bar may be necessary due to long hoses and other components, which is why the presetting of 1.2 bar is sufficient in any case.

Should I use several check valves on my CO2 installation?

True to the motto, better safe than sorry, some aquarists install several check valves in the same circuit. For example, if you use the JBL PROFLORA direct inline diffuser or the JBL PROFLORA CO2 Count Safe bubble counter, you already have an integrated check valve. If you also use a separate check valve (JBL PROFLORA SafeStop), there may be problems with the opening of the check valves. This effect can be observed if, after the night switch-off or interruption of the supply with the controller, the addition does not restart automatically. Please note that, depending on the working pressure and the number of bubbles, a few minutes may pass between the start of the supply and the visible entry of CO2 into the aquarium.
Each spring in a check valve needs a certain pressure to be opened. Several springs can therefore interfere with each other and, depending on the distance between the two check valves, reduce the pressure at the spring to such an extent that it remains closed. Therefore, please always use only one check valve for your CO2 installation.
