JBL is honoured for its commitment to the World Biotope Championships

Biotope aquaristics, i.e. the faithful reproduction of a natural habitat in an aquarium, is certainly one of the most beautiful, demanding and species-appropriate forms of aquaristics. The Biotope Aquarium Contest (BAC), which JBL actively supports with non-cash prizes and the biologist Heiko Blessin from JBL as a judge, has been running for several years. JBL is of the opinion that this form of aquaristics in particular should receive all the support possible. Even the most radical animal rights activists run out of arguments when habitats in the aquarium are modelled 1:1 like in nature, right down to the foliage. The JBL expeditions to the home countries of ornamental fish also fit into this concept, in order to examine the biotopes more closely, take water values and create unique underwater documentation of habitats that hardly exist anywhere else in the world. The aim is still to breed more fish and reptile species in captivity.
