Not only the koi needs to become “autumn-proof” with its nutrition but also its home, the garden pond. The leaves fall, but unfortunately they also fall into our ponds. To remove the leaves I recommend a fine-meshed pond landing net with telescopic handle.
Now is also the right time to reduce the existing bottom sludge with JBL SediEx Pond . This product breaks down the sludge layer with the help of bacteria and active oxygen and thus biologically cleans the pond.
Larger amounts of sludge should be reduced with a sludge suction cleaner in advance because the nutrients remain in the pond during the biological break-down process which becomes a potential risk for the algae growth in the coming year.
Furthermore, it involves an increased risk of the formation of digester gas if this sludge layer remains in the pond over the winter. In the worst case it may lead to the loss of the animals in the pond. An additional aeration through an oxygen pump (e.g. JBL PondOxi-Zestaw ) is always to be recommended!
