JBL Expedition Peru: All results are online

The observations and findings – some of which were surprising – from the JBL expedition to Peru in 2025 are now available on the JBL website. Both the observations made at the discus cichlid collection site and the habitats of rare poison dart frogs proved to be of great interest to all participants. Snorkelling in the Urubamba River near the world-famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu was an absolutely mad experience. Whilst millions of people simply marvel at the ruins, the team went in search of fish. For the first time ever, antenna catfish (Ancistrus spec.) were observed in the cool, 19 °C mountain water! Another highlight was Lake Titicaca, about which, surprisingly, there had been no underwater documentation to date. In the water, which was a chilly 17 °C, the world’s first underwater images of the biotopes, the fish and the endemic Titicaca frog were captured. UV levels and water parameters were also recorded.
